CRIME FIGHTER

With all of this super hero movie talk lately, I found myself doodling a random crime fighter. I originally gave him a hood but I gave him some tape instead to wear over the hood. It makes him look a little mummy-ish but I think it looks kind of cool.

POKEMON CHALLENGE CARD: DIGGERSBY

I'm putting together a Pokémon challenge card featuring my team from Pokémon X&Y (or at least the members of my team that are exclusive to X&Y. I can't give away all of my secrets :) Ideall it's for all of my fellow Pokémon fans out there who like to battle online. I've been at this for some time but I thought I'd share my progress so far. First up is Diggersby (Nickname: Fiver).

 I tried something a little different with these. First I sketched him out on paper with my favorite pencil, an indigo colerase. I tried to keep them as on-model as possible while adding my own personal touch.

Then I cleaned up the drawing on my trusty aniamtion desk, scanned it, added some touch ups via photoshop, and colored everything in flat and added a bit of texture. I used this process for all of the other Pokémon drawings I'll be posting as well.

I've been far too shy about coloring my own drawings, but you know what? F**k anxiety! This was with a pencil sketch that I scanned, inked, and colored in Paint Tool SAI.

Mouse Guard Fanart

I've been really into Mouse Guard recently. It's a graphic novel that recently won an Eisner Award and deserving so. I've been doodling the three main leads quite a bit lately. I think in the hands of the right people Mouse Guard would make a great feature film so I thought I'd try and design them how I'd like to see them on the screen.

 Kenzie generally plays the part of the leader. Somehow I always pictured his ears being pushed up a bit. He appeared to be the most well kept of the three. I also pushed his ears up a bit more than the others. I thought it would make him look a bit more proper.

 Saxon is easily my favorite character so far. I always pictured him as an adult version of Martin from The Secret of NIMH.. So admittedly I did observe Martin quite a bit. (In fact I think I lightly sketched him on the upper left corner) I also made him a bit bulkier than the other two since he's the most prone to resort to physical combat. I'd post some facial expressions but I seem to have misplaced them. I'll update this post when I find them.

Lieam was a bit of a challenge since many of them looked too similar to Kenzie. So I decided to tweak his eyes a bit and make them a bit larger since he's the youngest character in the book. Though I'll probably post another sketch of him sometime in a more interesting pose.

If there's one movie I never forget to watch during the holiday season it's Gremlins. It's like Takashi Miike's Audition. You think you're watching one type of movie and then SURPRISE!! It's a horror movie now!

An American Tail - Fievel

Recently picked up a childhood favorite of mine on DVD, An American Tail. While some parts of the story I don't feel aged very well Fievel still remains one of the most irresistibly charming characters of pretty much any movie I can think of.

Storyboard Exercise - Jaws

I've been watching a lot of Steven Spielberg films lately. He is after all my favorite director and I'm very much looking forward to seeing Lincoln in a few weeks. As a storyboard exercise I decided to try sketching up one of my favorite scenes from Jaws which is the first time we see Brody, Hooper, and Quint together. I love the dynamic between them and how over the course of the movie they seem to keep switching roles between each other.

Airport People

I visited New York recently and spent far more time at the airport than I was suppose to. After a while I found myself sketching some of the people around me. (I think a few of them saw me.)

I showed this to my aunt and she told me they all looked like the same person. Guess I should work on eye variety.
