Here's a little piece in celebration of the premiere of Star Wars: Rebels and because I need no reason to celebrate the existence of Pokémon.
I'm gonna have to store all of these drawings somewhere. Why not the internet? All original artwork and content is copyright Greg Jones Jr. 2014 unless otherwise noted. With that said, have a look!

Game Inspired Art
I love the artwork in NES instruction manuals. I always pictured this guy as my own little 8-Bit Hero. Also, who needs a horse when you can have a dragon!

Karl Gnass Caricature
Here's a caricature of my storyboard teacher, the great Karl Gnass. I never actually showed this to him. Perhaps I should if I take his class again. He's a pretty cool guy who despite that sometimes looks very annoyed with everything.

MORE ORCS AND A ....THING!
This one is actually from a scrap of paper at work. I figured i'd just ad some horns, bumps, and pointy ears to make him look a little less like a gorilla.
This one was deemed "too cartoony." I was told they wanted to avoid a Shrek looking character. Can't argue with that. (Never been a big fan of Shrek.)
This...I don't know. I started drawing an Orc, then I gave him a panther nose and whiskers and....well I guess he's a panther now.

Orcs
I was asked to help come up with some Orc designs recently. Here are a few of the results.
I was a little surprised that this last sketch was the one that made it into the "good" pile. Ideally he wanted this face on the body of the Orc in the previous picture, only with smaller hands.

PokéPals
I really ought to get into the habit of posting something more than once a month. Believe me, it's not that I haven't bee drawing. I have about several hundred storyboard drawings from my class to prove it. Perhaps I should post those too. Well in the meantime, here is a Pokémon doodle I did a while back and decided to color. It features three of the Generation VI Pokémon that I used in my initial play-through. From left to right respectively we have Pancham, Bunnelby, and Chespin. I gotta say, being able to view them from any angle in the game's Pokédex makes life a lot easier when using reference.
You may have noticed I removed their tails in the coloring process. For some reason no matter how I colored them they just didn't look right to me. Besides, from that angle you probably wouldn't have been able to see them anyway.

Worktime Pokémon Doodles
It's no secret that Pokémon is my all time favorite video game series so needless to say I'm pretty hyped for the release of Pokémon X & Y. I've found myself doodling some of my personal favorites over the last few days at work.
Out For A Stroll
Decided to color one of my sketches with Photoshop. I've been learning a lot more of the program lately and most recently I learned how to separate linework from the background of a scanned drawing.

Owl Monkey Character Doodles
Truth be told, I didn't even know Owl Monkeys existed until a couple of days ago. A bit bizarre considering monkeys and owls are two of my favorite animals.

Darkstalkers Character Design Contest
Capcom-Unity is apparently holding a character design contest to promote their upcoming Darkstalkers digital releases. In all honesty I've never actually entered any kind of art contest before. I think now is as good a time as any.The game is horror themed so I knew right off the bat I wanted to make a gargoyle. I've been looking at Gargoyle statues for inspiration as well as watching Disney's Gargoyles (my all time favorite cartoon!) Here are just a few doodles I jotted down after reading about the contest. I'm gonna work on making him look a little more intimidating.
MegasXLR Guy...Thing.
I've been watching MegasXLR among several other cartoons as of recent. I can't believe I skipped out on this one during it's original run. It's awesome! I really like the alien designs. I found myself sketching a few of them but this one was my favorite. He's a junkyard alien who as far as I know only appears in one episode.
Thought I'd try using a white color pencil against the dark grey markers for a reflection effect.

Character Design Classwork Pt. 2
We had an interesting assignment tonight. We were told to draw and fill in shapes that make up the gesture with a marker or the side of a pencil and draw our characters based on those shapes. It was one of those situations where it just sort of clicked and suddenly a lot of things made sense to me that I struggled to figure out before. Here are some of the results.
Here are some of the thumbnails I used as a basis.

Character Design Classwork
I've been in taking Character Design at the Animation Institute with Stephen Silver for several weeks now and it's been absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we're heading into the last few weeks. It's been very imensely helpful Here are some of the one minute gestures from the beginning of the class.

CTN Wreck-It-Ralph Panel Caricatures
CTN Gesture Drawing After Dark
And so ends my first year at CTN. It was well worth the time (and the money.) I attended David Pimentel's Gesture Drawing After Dark session on the first night. We all did quite a few in the time we had. They ranged from one minute to five minute poses.
